Ecologist/Senior Ecologist
Location: Bakewell at our Derbyshire office, with opportunities for home working.
Salary: £27,000 – £40,000 dependant on experience.

All Roles Require:

Educated to degree standard in an ecological/environmental discipline.

Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Flexibility to work irregular hours and travel to remote locations (including overnight stays).

Willingness to undertake surveys in early mornings or late evenings.

Good written and verbal communication skills.
-
Good computer skills and confidence using technology.

Enthusiasm for the sector and ability to work effectively in a small team.

Self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
Responsibilities (Varied Based on Experience):
-
Provide technical support on a range of projects, including planning applications.
-
Conduct and/or lead a wide range of ecological surveys, specialising in protected species surveys.

Manage projects, including liaising with clients and ensuring high-quality deliverables.

Assist in or lead project teams, mentoring and supervising junior staff as needed.

Prepare technical reports and contribute to biodiversity net gain and ecological impact assessments.

Work as an ecological clerk of works where required.

Senior candidates will take on additional responsibilities such as quoting for new work, contributing to tenders, designing, and scheduling surveys, and networking to generate new business opportunities.
Desired Skills & Experience:

Strong knowledge of the UK planning system and current wildlife legislation, CIEEM and BCT guidelines.

Experience working in an ecological consultancy role, with project management experience preferred.

Ability to interpret and analyse data effectively, providing clear and concise written advice.

Ideally hold at least one UK protected species licence. e.g. bats.

Membership of CIEEM would be advantageous.

Ability to work independently, take initiative, and make robust, defensible decisions.

GIS skills.
